Frequently Asked Questions

What is Venetian plaster?

Venetian plaster is a handcrafted decorative wall finish made using mineral or lime-based materials. Applied in multiple layers with specialist tools, it creates depth, texture, and a unique surface that cannot be replicated with standard paint.

   Durability?

One of the key advantages of Venetian plaster is its strength. When applied correctly, it is less prone to wear and tear compared to paint.

While paint may require re-coating every few years, Venetian plaster can withstand the elements and maintain its appearance for a significantly longer period, providing excellent value over time.

Why is Venetian plaster more expensive than paint?

Venetian plaster is a premium finish that requires specialist skill, time, and materials. Each wall is applied by hand over several stages, often across multiple days, with drying times between coats.

No two walls are ever the same. The price reflects craftsmanship, durability, and a truly unique result.

Do my walls need to be prepared before Venetian plaster is applied?

Yes — Venetian plaster is a specialist decorative finish and requires walls to be smooth, stable, and in suitable condition to achieve the best possible result.

We assess wall conditions either in person or from client-provided photos and videos, depending on the location and scope of the project. Based on this assessment, we advise on any preparation required before application.

Any preparation work will always be discussed and agreed in advance to ensure clarity before work begins.

What happens if the wall condition is different from what was originally assessed?

If the wall condition differs from what was visible during the initial assessment (whether in person or from photos and videos), we will discuss this with you before proceeding.

In some cases, additional preparation may be required to ensure the quality and longevity of the finish. Any changes to scope or cost will always be explained and agreed in advance before work continues.

Our priority is to deliver a finish that meets the highest standard, without unexpected surprises.

Is Venetian plaster waterproof?

Venetian plaster is water-resistant when correctly sealed, making it suitable for bathrooms and splash areas.
However, it is not a substitute for tanking systems and should not be applied to damp or actively leaking walls.

We will always advise on suitability during assessment.

How do I care for and clean Venetian plaster?

.Venetian plaster is low maintenance. Light dusting or wiping with a damp cloth is usually sufficient.

Abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, and scrubbing should be avoided to preserve the finish.
